Quilled thank you cards and creations

Put together some thank you cards for my relatives.  I had such an awesome holiday, I wanted to make them something special.

This is a quilled creation, my first frameable piece, a collection of spring flowers inspired directly from Georgia's Quilling Planet.  It has fringed flowers, quilled flowers with fringed centres, flower buds, berries, wheat, grasses and scrolls.  Used shades of pink and purple.
Happy with the finished result, want to do something similar for myself.. maybe bigger.

I made a card of quilled roses, my Aunty loves pink roses inspired directly from this paperweight which is lovely.  I used large pink spiral roses and smaller quilled roses with daisys, leaves, spirals, open coils and pearls.

The card itself is like a frame, with layers of thin cardboard for strength and corrugated cardboard for depth.  It is wrapped in thick paper to hide all the layering of cardboard, but you can see some within in the circle frames.  I used two circular shapes (peanut butter jars and the like) to create the paper frame layers.

Inside I themed the text and verse with the pink card.  Looks pretty!

I copied a child's board book to allow the card to open and close well, looks like a tidy finish.

More quilled flowers for this dark purple themed card, centred around a recent photo.  Inspiration taken from some lovely handmade etsy creations and some flower ideas from martha stewart.
Includes quilled roses, daisys, quilled flowers, bell flowers, fringed flowers, pearls and tight coils.

 Themed text and verse.

Card is made of thick pearl paper around thick card.

And finally a cute and fun thank you card directly inspired from something similar by Moxie fab world.

I used 1cm thick quilling paper strips instead of washi tape for the rainbow effect.  Used a variety of heart shapes and cut them out with a scalpel.  The thank you text was sourced somewhere, reversed and copied onto the back and cut out.

I made the top layer of heart cut outs sit slightly above the rainbow layer with strips of thin cardboard.  Such a fun card.

A Wedding and Birthday Card and Cinnamon Scrolls

Put together this accordian style card for my brother and sister in law.  I started with a watercolour by D as inspiration for colours and the shape of the card and used his painting as the background image.  Uses tissue paper for the main rose and quilling for the petals.  Found it neater to use a non slanted script as opposed to my usual slant.  Made a custom boxy envelope to protect the elements on the front.  Card closes flat.

Put together this fun dinosaur birthday card for a four year old boy.  His party was dinosaur themed and I put this together in an hour for a bit of fun.  Virtually copied from this design here.

Seriously craving American style cinnamon sticky scrolls since we got back.  Followed this recipe and they turned out amazing.. Most were gone that afternoon.. best straight out of the oven.  Not overly sweet but soft.

Quilled paper rose picture frame

I bought some plain blue second hand Ikea 8x10inch photo frames from a thrift store and decided to make them more beautiful.  Here's the finished result.

I am really interested in ways to display the Word or encouraging snippets.  This is from the hymn Rock of Ages, which I've really enjoyed lately.  It was surprisingly easy to write up with my trusty Noodler flex pen.  My handwriting was helped a lot by the paper I wrote on which had ruled lines as a pattern.  I copied a Kunstler and Edwardian font script for the capital letters.

The edges are quilled paper roses which are really easy to make.  I used 1cm thick strips in 3 colours.  I added the swirls using 3mm strips and leaves from the 1cm thick strips.

This is now sitting a top my piano, it would be easy to write up something new to keep it fresh.

Wedding cards

A few weddings this year so have loved making these personalised cards.  I utilised paper cutting for both designs.

I centred this design around a clipart couple (that look somewhat like my wedded friends I might add) that I found and cut out.  There is lace sewn onto the card in the background and lace for the veil.

Inside the card I added 1 Timothy 4:12 with distressed (ripped) edges and exposed lace edge from the front.

The finished card is simple and striking in black and cream.

My next wedding card was based on a favourite facebook photo of the couple that I traced around to get a silhouette then cut out.  The background is material sewed on to the card and the wording is the font Kunstler that has also been cut out by hand.  I made this fun with pink and white ribbon.  Perhaps a bit too pink but it is a fun card.

Inside I added 2 Corinthians 13:14 with white ribbon carrying the pink through.

Included a handmade envelope, prescoring the edges for easy folding (as the card would be quite thick) and love the colour coordinating on the inside flap.

I love weddings!

30th Anniversary Card

Wanted to put together something for my parents wedding anniversary.  Inspired by kixinlife's work centred around three felt/material flowers (with great tutorials) here is the finished result.

I chose reds and pearly cream for colour; thirty years is pearl traditionally and you can't go wrong with red for anniversaries.  I sewed on some pearl beads and added quilled motifs to finish the flowers.

The title for the card was hand cut from paper using the font Kunstler with ribbon sewed on that has been bunched while sewing through.  The text is presented on a paper doily for intricacy and I like how the red material shows through it.

I used cardboard between the front and back for extra support and sewed a lot of elements on to the cardboard (buttons/flowers, pearls).

Inside I added 2 Corinthians 13:14 and decorated with quilling, pearls and a simple flower piece.

My handwriting is getting better.  I use a Noodler's flex pen with lots of tissue paper to avoid inky fingers.. still couldn't help a little smudge though.  Smudges just give it that "Made-for-mummy" kind of feel though don't you think?

Hope you liked it!

Happy Anniversary

Seven years married already.  We very rarely celebrate special occasions, I am quite laid back about them.  Having lined up the grandparents to take care of the kiddies, was wanting to plan a special night out for a fine dining experience.  Found a few restaurants in the city, looked romantic and the food tasty, the downside being that they are also so expensive, and would require a long drive in traffic there and back.  Well why couldn't I do that right here?  A wonderful opportunity to get creative and I was surprised with how easy it was and how professional the results.  Cue some music, candles, gourmet ingredients and we had a wonderful dinner.  Then we had the whole night to relax, not being stuck in traffic.

Entrees - picked up my favourite things from the deli and popped them on Jatz

For Mains I chose Snapper and Salmon.. one marinated in soy sauce and brown sugar and the Snapper crumbed (our favourite way to eat fish).. quick and easy and fresh!

For dessert, the finest fruit on theme (red) that Woolies had to offer..

Don't forget the freshly juiced veges for drinks.  Such a healthy meal.. better add some Lindt chocolates to counter that.

Add lots of candles, a tissue paper pom pom ball, some wedding piccie, plenty of red material and something from the garden..  I loooved doing this.. happy anniversary =)
